Posting pictures and ‘stories’ to social media to help spread awareness, American Institute used the opportunity to share the ‘CPR Playlist’ from the American Heart Association (AHA) songs and link to this important resource for our communities to be more able and willing to potentially help save a life with hands-only CPR (found here: https://cpr.heart.org/-/media/CPR-Files/Training-Programs/Community-Programs/Be-the-Beat/BTB-2023/new-playlists/CPR-Playlist-2.pdf). Whatever your personal taste in tunes, the AHA has you covered with a catchy option to help get the rhythm right!
Referred to by those ‘in the know’ as Bystander CPR, this can be scary for those not formally trained in healthcare to jump in and help. According to the AHA, however, “the benefits of performing CPR far outweigh the risk and can double or triple the chance of survival.”*
American Institute is happy to support the American Heart Association in their centennial year and join the Centers for Disease control and the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) this February in “encouraging women to listen to their hearts and speak up for their health. Women in the United States are experiencing unacceptable and avoidable heart-related illness and death, and nearly half of U.S. women do not recognize that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women.”**
An important step in understanding individual risk factors is ‘knowing your numbers’ – the key metrics associated with heart health can be an important guide to maintaining heart health. Download the ‘Know Your Numbers’ PDF from Go Red For Women here: https://www.goredforwomen.org/-/media/GRFW-Files/GRFW-ETS-Lesson-PDFs/Know-Your-Numbers-PDF.pdf
Let’s all support the women in our lives by encouraging them to take time to focus on their own heart health and keep them beating strong!
