2023 marks the 17th Annual National Medical Biller’s Day, and American Institute was delighted to share in the celebration with our West Hartford, CT campus students and faculty as part of the Medical Coding and Billing program. They joined in the campus-wide meals earlier in the month in combination with the Dental Assistant Recognition Week, but as a special nod to their individual day they enjoyed some cupcakes and fun on campus.
Medical Biller’s Day is a moment to celebrate the unsung heroes of the healthcare world, these magical individuals who turn scribbles and handwritten notes into comprehensible codes for computers to understand. It’s like cracking a secret code, except instead of finding hidden treasure they help us find effective and efficient healthcare support!
These talented and dedicated professionals navigate the coding realms of ICD-10 with finesse, distinguishing between codes as if it was their second nature. We’re a little envious of their ability to distinguish a doctor’s visit being due to an injury sustained by lawn flamingos or mysterious encounters with extraterrestrials. One of our favorite codes we’ve come across from ICD-10? V97.33XD: Sucked into jet engine, subsequent encounter. Which immediately begs the follow-up thought – how many encounters could there be?? It’s safe to say that no two days are exactly alike for these billing and coding professionals!
Medical Billers and Coders are ready for any event to ensure it gets handled appropriately – from W220.2XD (walked into lamppost, subsequent encounter) to Z63.1 (problems in relationship with in-laws) – there’s a code for that!
Let’s all remember to thank medical coders and billers for their dedication and attention to detail, especially in honor of Medical Biller’s Day in March. Without these talented individuals our healthcare system would fall into disarray, and we are grateful for you being the heroes behind the scenes that make all our lives smoother. Keep up the great work, and remember to take breaks to stretch out your coding muscles during the day!
